Vampires - Myth? or Plausible Reality?

Prior to writing Origin I was what I would describe as being a 'traditionalist Vampire fan', Bram Stoker being the benchmark, although I enjoyed Blade as a good action romp I was always left feeling a little unsatisfied.

For me as a romantic but factual person, basing my life on scientific theories and beliefs I was always slightly unable to commit to say 'Twilight', it just seemed all too male 'Dominated' and non-factual and non-scientific and shaky  But you have to commend the series itself for its blistering success.

But for me, I always wanted to delve into the possible plausible science behind the Vampire's abilities. And hence Origin was born, over a cup of coffee.

Scientifically Origin explains properly the abilities of Vampires, how they fly, why they live so long, why they are so resistant to death and why they need to feed on human blood. No scientific stone or explanation is left untouched.

The key for me, is it possible for vampires to exist? Yes! is it possible for the species to have the powers suggested? Yes!

That is when the shiver went down my spine, for all the hype and fantasy around Vampires the one thing I did not expect was that I would actually become more afraid of them as I wrote my book about them. An unexpected side effect of proving that such creatures could exist but probably actually do, possibly.

Recent scientific theories suggest life first evolved on Mars and came to Earth by meteor or asteroid. These theories are explored in Origin© and what would happen if two sets of life evolved on Mars and came to Earth but separated by a billion years of evolution. This story brings those theories and situation to life in a young adult fantasy horror (light) concept.

Set on Mars in the year 2119, post independence for the twenty-eight domed cities, the story follows Jayne a bored Police Investigator in Mons City, Russell her amusing but capable subordinate. They are joined by Arnaut a true figure from central European History, Maria another true character from history and former Princess, Giure Grando a rumoured vampire of central Europe in the medieval period and Heidi a young scientist with help from David a Coroner of Mons City. ©

The story opens in Mons City with Jayne seeking a transfer to Earth to follow a more exciting career. A crashed ship on Olympus Mons (Largest Mountain in the Solar System) takes her on an evolutionary and exciting adventure where she will battle for the survival of the all humans on Mars against the second superior evolved humans; the vampires.©

This book explains what is the myth and the facts about vampires, explores the historical context of the vampire myths, and explains in scientific terms the ORIGIN of vampires. This scientific explanation details how vampires are created on Earth, born to ordinary parents, it is a genetic throwback genome to the second string of DNA from Mars and that Genome when active in a child and they reach sixteen years the mutated genome starts a metamorphosis turning the child into a vampire.©

Mars has developed into a self-governing world of remote cities housed under protective domes. The people of Mars have no religious faith, no historical ties with Earth, they came as scientists and built a world, free from the festering problems of Earth, and free from the protection of the knowledge and skills it requires to manage and kill vampires. Mars has reached a critical phase its population size is now sufficient to support a large population of Vampires

Harry Harrison - Author March 12, 1925 – August 15, 2012

 

As a young avid science fiction fan, the works of Harry Harrison were not only brilliant, but also inspiring and thought provoking. His books left a legacy and an imprint on my life that only the great Issac Asimov can rival.

The first of his books I remember reading was of course the infamous 'The Stainless Steel Rat'. However, it was his great variety of his works, his style of writing that I as a teenager fell in love with.

He was brilliant with his use of words, but economical with that talent. He never used twenty words where ten would do. Nevertheless, he still enabled the readers mind to picture his thoughts and the image he wanted us to see.

For me this has been a great inspiration. My writing has been described as Screen Play like. In that, I paint the scene well and encourage the reader to image that they are there.

For this ability, I have to thank Harry, an amazingly talented author who is greatly missed by me and by many others like me.

Mission to Mars - Announces Nasa

More fantastic News - New lander to discover the Geological History of Mars

With the Curiosity rover testing its muscles on Mars as I write, to see the announcement of another mission to Mars is fantastic news.

There are so many theories about how Mars formed, and of course why it died. From a giant impact to explain the higher and lower plains of the north and south, to it might have once had a hot liquid iron core which has cooled so much that it losts its magnetic sheild.

If you consider that Venus does not have a magnetic shield but still has a very thick atmosphere, even if highly dangerous you have to wonder whether the magnetic shield theory is strong enough.

I believe it is much more likely a giant impact blew most of the atmosphere from the planet, disturbing its magnetic field and destablising the core.

Of course, we all want there to be evidence of life on Mars, or life that once lived on Mars. I think it is highly likely at some point in the next fifty years we will discover basic life forms. How advanced they were is a subject for debate at the moment. But it could well be that life on earth began because Mars died. Could we all be decendants of Martians?

Hopefully the red planet will over the next ten years, thanks to Nasa give us all a greater insight into its history.
